MUMBAI, March 4: The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) is set to mark the 50th anniversary of one of Indian cinema’s most iconic films, Sholay, with a special tribute during IIFA 2025, which will be held in Jaipur. The tribute will take place at the famed Raj Mandir Cinema, an iconic theatre that has been an integral part of India’s cinematic legacy for five decades. This star-studded event will celebrate Sholay and honor the grand legacy of Raj Mandir Cinema, offering a fitting homage to both the film and the renowned theatre.
Raj Mandir, regarded as a symbol of cinematic brilliance, will serve as the perfect backdrop for this tribute, which will highlight the lasting impact of Sholay on Indian cinema. The celebration will not only commemorate the legendary film’s golden anniversary but also pay tribute to Raj Mandir’s journey as a revered sanctuary for movie lovers.
Speaking about the event, Andre Timmins, Co-Founder of IIFA, expressed his excitement, saying, “IIFA 2025 is not just a celebration, it’s a journey through time, honoring 50 years of Sholay at Jaipur’s iconic Raj Mandir. As we mark IIFA’s Silver Jubilee, we are celebrating more than milestones; we are celebrating legends, memories, and the magic of cinema that has touched hearts for generations.” Timmins also mentioned that the tribute would bring together the soul of Indian cinema with the grandeur of Raj Mandir, creating a moment that would be cherished forever.
Directed by Ramesh Sippy and produced by G. P. Sippy, Sholay remains one of the most beloved films in Indian cinema. Written by the legendary duo Salim-Javed, the film tells the gripping tale of two criminals, Veeru (Dharmendra) and Jai (Amitabh Bachchan), hired by a retired police officer (Sanjeev Kumar) to capture the notorious dacoit Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan). The film also stars Hema Malini and Jaya Bhaduri, cementing its place as an iconic and timeless masterpiece.
The highly anticipated 25th anniversary edition of the IIFA Weekend & Awards is scheduled to take place in Jaipur on March 8–9, 2025. This celebration promises to be a grand tribute to Sholay, Raj Mandir Cinema, and the power of storytelling in Indian cinema.
