NEW DELHI, March 11: A total of 283 Indian nationals, who were lured into accepting fake job offers in Myanmar, have been successfully rescued and repatriated to India. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that the rescue operation was carried out with the coordination of Indian embassies in Myanmar and Thailand, along with local authorities.

The rescued individuals were brought back to India on Monday via an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft from Mae Sot in Thailand. The MEA highlighted that these individuals had been deceived by fraudulent job offers, which led them into forced participation in cybercrimes and other illicit activities at scam centres operating along the Myanmar-Thailand border.

India has been continuously working to secure the release and repatriation of its citizens who fall victim to such scams in Southeast Asia. The MEA stressed the importance of verifying the legitimacy of job offers, reminding Indian nationals to be cautious when considering employment abroad. It urged them to always verify foreign employers’ credentials through Indian missions and check the background of recruiting agents and companies before accepting job offers.
