IMPHAL, March 11: Manipur police arrested two alleged cadres of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on Monday for attempting to recruit minor girls into their insurgency group. The PLA is the armed wing of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF).
A joint team from the Kakching and Thoubal district police rescued two minor girls during a series of operations. One girl was rescued from the Kakching Bazar area in Kakching District, while the other was found in the Wangbal Laikon area of Thoubal District. Following initial questioning at the scene, the police launched a subsequent raid on the suspected locations, leading to the arrest of two active PLA cadres.
The arrested individuals were identified as Moirangthem Romen Singh, aged 23, from Moirang Bazar Maning Moiranghtem Leikai, and Nongmaithem Mohendro Singh, aged 54, from Kakching Thonglan. The police confirmed that these individuals had recruited the two minor girls into the insurgent organization, RPF/PLA.
Authorities seized a scooter and two mobile phones from the suspects’ possession during the operation. The rescued girls were then presented before the Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Thoubal for further formalities.
