IMPHAL, March 14: Manipur MP A Bimol Akoijam has accused the government of removing his questions relating to agreements signed between the government and insurgent groups in the northeastern states from the list of starred questions scheduled for March 11, 2025. The Inner Manipur MP described this as a “serious infringement” on his rights and privileges as an elected Member of Parliament.
Akoijam, in a post on X, explained that his name was initially listed 16th in the ballot for starred questions but was later found missing when the final list was released. He expressed that his questions did not violate any rules or concerns on the admissibility of questions. “This is undoubtedly a serious infringement on my rights and privileges as an elected Member of Parliament. It undermines my constitutionally mandated duty and responsibility of exercising the legislative oversight function,” he said.
The Congress leader further stated that he had written to the Secretary General on March 6, 2025, seeking clarification but had not received any response. Akoijam raised the issue during zero hours on Wednesday and later met Speaker Om Birla. The Speaker, who serves as the custodian of the Lok Sabha, acknowledged the issue and assured Akoijam that his office would take the necessary action the following week.
Akoijam’s questions were focused on the “Rehabilitation of Insurgent Groups in the Northeast States,” specifically asking how many agreements the government has signed with insurgent or armed groups in the northeastern states, state-wise, to date, along with other related questions.
