NSCN (IM) Reaffirms Commitment to Naga Sovereignty

DIMAPUR, March 20: NSCN (IM) General Secretary and Chief Political Negotiator, Th Muivah, reaffirmed the organization’s unwavering commitment to securing the Naga people’s right to self-determination during a key address on Thursday. The speech was delivered on the occasion of the reaffirmation and declaration of the NSCN/GPRN collective leadership.

“On behalf of Nagalim and the Naga people, I also proclaim that we will not surrender our unique history and our sovereignty, whether on the battlefield or at the negotiating table,” Muivah firmly stated.

Muivah expressed deep gratitude for divine guidance, drawing from religious scripture to emphasize the belief in divine sovereignty. Reflecting on the leadership of historical figures such as Uncle Phizo and Imkongmeren, who played key roles in asserting that Nagalim belongs to the Nagas and that their right to decide their own future is inalienable. He also paid tribute to his late associates, Isak Chishi Swu and Khadao Yanthan, reaffirming his unwavering commitment to the freedom and sovereignty of Nagalim. He also acknowledged the contributions of other key figures in the Naga independence movement, including military leaders like Thinoselie M Keyho and Capt Phungtha.

The NSCN (IM) leader reiterated that Nagalim’s sovereignty is non-negotiable, emphasizing that the Naga people will never relinquish their unique history, sovereignty, or rights through either military action or negotiations. He also expressed deep gratitude to the Naga people, civil society groups, and the international community that has supported Nagalim’s independence movement. He acknowledged China’s past assistance in the early years of their struggle and pledged, “We will pay back what you have done for us—but in terms of victory.”

Muivah highlighted past agreements, particularly the Amsterdam Joint Communiqué of 2002 and the Framework Agreement of 2015, which recognized Nagalim’s unique history and sovereignty. These agreements, according to Muivah, will serve as the foundation for any final political settlement with the Government of India.

He assured the Naga people that the final political agreement will be based on these agreements and asserted, “The sovereign Nagalim national flag and constitution shall be an integral part of the political agreement. Along with the flag and constitution, the sovereign Nagalim territory is also non-negotiable.”

Concluding his address, Muivah reiterated his faith in the divine plan for Nagalim, expressing confidence that a satisfactory resolution would ultimately be reached. He urged the Naga people to hold on to their faith in the eventual fulfillment of their aspirations for independence.
