IMPHAL, March 27: Security forces in Manipur have successfully apprehended five active members of various proscribed insurgent groups involved in extortion and unlawful activities across Imphal. The arrests took place between March 25 and March 26, 2025, in different locations within Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
On March 25, security forces arrested two active members of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro) from Top Makha Leikai near Shagolsem Pukhri under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East District. The arrested individuals were identified as Wangkheirakpam Romeo Meitei, also known as Baruni, aged 44, and Thokchom Nepolian Singh, alias Abothe, aged 22. Reports indicate that the duo was actively engaged in extorting money from local businesses, including shops and tent houses in and around Imphal. During the operation, security forces recovered three mobile handsets, a black wallet containing ₹11,800 in cash, an Aadhaar card, a demand letter from the Kangleipak Communist Party (Red Army), and a two-wheeler allegedly used for extortion-related activities.

Continuing the crackdown on unlawful activities, security personnel on March 26 apprehended an active member of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) from Takhel Mamang Leikai near the foothill under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East District. The arrested insurgent was identified as Naorem Naren Meitei, also known as Leishemba or Irabot, aged 25. Items seized from his possession included one mobile handset, a black wallet containing ₹500 in cash, an Aadhaar card, and a two-wheeler.
Later the same day, Manipur Police arrested two active members of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) / People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from Dinku Road under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West District. The individuals taken into custody were Thangam Surankumar Singh, also known as Achouba or Ingba, aged 29, and Chingakham Langol Singh, aged 21. Both individuals were reportedly involved in extortion operations across the city. During the operation, police confiscated two two-wheelers, four mobile handsets, two wallets, and cash amounting to ₹3,500.
The arrests mark a significant step in the ongoing efforts by security forces to curb insurgent activities in the state.
