IMPHAL, April 4: Manipur’s Churachandpur district has been declared a containment zone following the confirmation of multiple rabies cases. Officials confirmed on Friday that New Zoveng village is now under strict containment measures due to the emergence of both confirmed and suspected rabies infections, posing a serious threat to the health and safety of residents and animals in the region.

District Magistrate Dharun Kumar issued an official order declaring the village a containment zone. The order strictly prohibits the movement of domesticated pets and dogs in and out of New Zoveng. In addition, the sale and transport of domestic animals, particularly dogs, are banned during the containment period.

The District Veterinary Department, under supervision, will carry out identification and vaccination of all pet and stray dogs in the village. Surveillance operations, door-to-door monitoring, and health check-ups will also be conducted by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and veterinary teams to prevent the further spread of the virus.
