SENAPATI, April 8: The United Naga Council (UNC), All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), and Naga Women Union (NWU) have jointly denounced the violent attack on Liangmai Naga villagers of Konsakhul, situated near the Leimakhong Army Cantonment. The attack took place on April 5, 2025 and was allegedly carried out by assailants from Leilon kukis.

The incident occurred around 11:30 AM and reportedly left 13 individuals seriously injured. Among the injured were Aimson Abonmai (Village Chief), Adam Dirinamai (Village Chairman), and Wilingson Abonmai (Pastor of Konsaram Baptist Church). Aimson and Adam are currently receiving medical treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.

In a strongly worded joint statement, the Naga organizations described the attack as a premeditated and barbaric assault, branding it a gross violation of customary law and traditional Naga values, particularly because it involved the assault of village leaders.

Calling the attack an “organized crime,” the three apex bodies questioned the inaction of both state and central security forces, especially given that the incident occurred during a government-imposed public curfew. The statement criticized the perceived failure of the authorities to protect civilians and suggested a concerning relationship between the Central forces and the alleged perpetrators.

The organizations also took strong exception to the World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council’s “hasty and baseless” statement, which they claimed justified the attack using “unfounded claims and distorted documents.”

In a related incident, the joint Naga bodies also condemned what they described as a treacherous and savage attack on April 3, 2025, allegedly carried out by Kuki volunteers from Valpabung village against Kazanga, a Maram Naga tribe village. They accused the perpetrators of vandalism and arson, interpreting the incident as a clear attempt at land arrogation disguised as a territorial dispute.

Meanwhile, the Zeme Naga Council Manipur (ZNCM) issued a separate but aligned statement condemning the Konsakhul attack. The council expressed deep concern over what it sees as a calculated attempt to grab ancestral land belonging to the Zeliangrong-Inpui Nagas. ZNCM called the incident a “fatal blow” to peace in the region and pledged support to the affected communities.

The ZNCM has demanded an unconditional apology from the perpetrators, warning that failure to do so could escalate tensions further. It called on the Kuki community to recognize ancestral land rights and respect historical ownership to help maintain regional harmony.
