AHMEDABAD, April 9: The Indian National Congress launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Central Government for its continued inaction and silence on the ongoing crisis in Manipur, during the 84th All India Congress Committee (AICC) Session held in Ahmedabad.
The two-day national convention, themed “Nyaypath: Sankalp, Samarpan aur Sangharsh” (Path of Justice: Resolution, Dedication, and Struggle), marked a significant moment as the first AICC session hosted in Gujarat in over six decades.
Addressing the session, senior Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge expressed grave concerns over the deteriorating situation in Manipur, which has remained embroiled in turmoil for nearly two years. Rahul Gandhi, who has visited Manipur three times since the violence began, highlighted the stark contrast between his outreach and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from the troubled state.
“The Prime Minister has not stepped foot in Manipur during its darkest hours. Instead, the extension of President’s Rule in the state was passed in Parliament at midnight without a single meaningful debate,” Rahul Gandhi said. He added that the silence from the Prime Minister’s Office was not mere negligence, but a grave injustice to the people of Manipur.

N. Bhupenda, senior leader from the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), echoed the sentiment, stating that the Centre’s failure to act has only exacerbated the crisis. “What we are witnessing is a collapse of democratic responsibility. The Centre has turned its back on Manipur, leaving its people to suffer in silence,” he said during his speech.
The convention also spotlighted the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which commenced from Manipur and is set to conclude in Mumbai, as a powerful symbol of the Congress party’s resolve to fight for justice, equality, and national unity. “Manipur was chosen as the starting point of the Yatra because it reflects the deep wounds inflicted by state apathy and neglect,” Mallikarjun Kharge remarked.
Held on the picturesque banks of the Sabarmati River, between the historic Sabarmati Ashram and Kochrab Ashram, the session attracted key Congress figures from across the country. It served both as a strategic assembly ahead of the upcoming elections and a reaffirmation of the party’s foundational principles and dedication to democratic values.
