IMPHAL, April 15: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing operations against militant activities in Manipur, security forces apprehended two active militants associated with the proscribed insurgent group PREPAK (Pro) in separate, coordinated operations carried out on Monday. The arrests were made through a joint effort by State and Central security agencies.
The first operation was conducted in Bidya Nagar, under the jurisdiction of the Jiribam Police Station. Authorities arrested a 32-year-old individual identified as Saikhom Sandip Singha, a resident of Saikhom Leikai in Sonai Bazar, Cachar, Assam. His detention marks a notable success in the intensified crackdown on insurgent elements operating in the region.
In a separate operation, security personnel arrested Irengbam Robinson Singh, aged 25, from his residence in Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Ward No. 4, under the jurisdiction of Bishnupur Police Station. During a subsequent search of his home, security forces recovered a substantial cache of ammunition, indicating a significant stockpiling effort by militant networks.
The recovered ammunition included 196 boxes of .303 mm, 82 boxes of 7.62 mm SLR, 55 boxes of 5.56 mm INSAS, and 32 boxes of 7.62 mm AK ammunition. Additionally, one mobile phone and a SIM card were seized from the location.
Both individuals have been taken to their respective police stations along with the recovered items for further investigation. Authorities continue to step up efforts to dismantle insurgent infrastructure and neutralize threats posed by underground groups in Manipur and neighboring regions.
