CHURACHANDPUR, April 26: Three individuals, including two police constables, have been arrested in connection with an open firing incident near the G/129 CRPF camp close to the Old DC Guest House and Churachandpur Medical College, according to an official statement.
The incident took place around 3 a.m. on Thursday when shots were fired from a white vehicle approaching from the Churachandpur College side toward the CRPF campus. The miscreants allegedly fired three rounds in the air. In response, the sentry posted at the main gate of G/129 Battalion CRPF fired a single round from his rifle as a deterrent. Following the warning shot, the suspects fled the scene.
A case under FIR No. 68(4)2025 CCP-PS u/s 351(2)/3(5) BNS and 25(1-C) of the Arms Act was immediately registered, and an investigation was launched under the supervision of Churachandpur Superintendent of Police Prakhar Pandey.
The Churachandpur Police, with assistance from 19 Garhwal Rifles and 58 CRPF, reviewed CCTV footage and gathered intelligence from ground sources. This led to the identification and interception of the vehicle involved. One of the occupants, identified as Mangkholun Haokip, was arrested, and a 9mm pistol used in the incident was recovered.
Subsequent interrogation of the suspect revealed the involvement of two police constables—Paominthang Haokip and Thonglenkhai—who were later taken into custody.
Authorities have since tightened security in the area to prevent further disturbances. SP Prakhar Pandey stated that the Churachandpur Police remain tirelessly committed to maintaining law and order. He emphasized that any instance of gunfire can create widespread panic among civilians, and such incidents are always treated with high priority.
