IMPHAL, April 29: In separate operations over the past 24 hours, Manipur Police and central security forces arrested one cadre each from the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive (PREPAK-Pro), officials reported on Tuesday.

During the intelligence-based operations, a pistol along with a magazine loaded with two rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition, two mobile handsets, and a two-wheeler were recovered from the arrested individuals.

In one operation, a joint team apprehended an active cadre of PREPAK (Pro), identified as Hijam Ngamba Meetei (24) of Sagolband Thangjam Leirak, Imphal West. He was arrested from Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai, Yambem Leirak Machin under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West District. According to the police, he is involved in extortion activities targeting doctors, business establishments, and others.
In a separate operation, security forces arrested an active member of the PLA, identified as Sairem Basanta Singh alias Bomcha alias Angamba (39) of Lakhipur Ward Number 8. He was apprehended from Jiribam Bazar under Jiribam Police Station, Jiribam District. Reports said he, too, was involved in extortion activities.
Both arrested individuals, along with the seized items, are now in police custody for further legal action.
