IMPHAL, May 1: The Manipur Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the sexual assault and murder of a 9-year-old girl at Lanva TD Block, Lingsiphai in Churachandpur district. The brutal incident has sent shockwaves across the district, prompting grief, outrage, and demands for swift justice.
The case was registered at the Women Police Station in Churachandpur, initiating a high-priority investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies. According to officials, the probe entailed several rounds of interrogation, a forensic examination of medical evidence collected from the victim and multiple suspects, and collaboration with the CRPF dog squad.
Investigators also examined extensive mobile tower data and call detail records (CDRs) to trace the movements of individuals and reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the heinous crime.

“Based on the evidence gathered, we have taken one suspect into custody. A chargesheet will be filed soon by the Women Police Station,” a senior police officer confirmed.
The arrest comes in the wake of another similar incident in the state that recently triggered public outrage, once again raising serious concerns about child safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement.
In response to the tragedy, local communities have held vigils and protests, demanding urgent and stringent justice for the young victim. Civil society groups and child rights activists have echoed these demands, calling for stronger preventive measures to safeguard children from such brutal acts.
