NEW DELHI, May 8: In a significant development amid heightened tensions with Pakistan, the Indian Armed Forces this morning targeted multiple Air Defence Radars and systems across Pakistan. According to the Ministry of Defence, one of the key Air Defence systems located in Lahore has been neutralised.
The Ministry stated that India’s military response matched Pakistan’s provocation in both domain and intensity. This retaliatory action comes in the wake of attempted Pakistani drone and missile strikes on several Indian military installations in northern and western regions, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj.
The Ministry confirmed that all of these attempted incursions were successfully thwarted by India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. Debris from intercepted drones and missiles has been recovered from various locations, confirming the Pakistani origin of the attacks.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has intensified unprovoked cross-border shelling using mortars and heavy-calibre artillery along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. The affected sectors include Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri. As per official data, 16 civilians—among them three women and five children—have lost their lives in these attacks.
In response, the Indian Armed Forces launched measured counter-attacks aimed at silencing Pakistani mortar and artillery positions. The Ministry reiterated India’s commitment to non-escalation, stating that India will maintain restraint provided it is reciprocated by the Pakistani military.
During a press briefing on Operation Sindoor yesterday, Indian officials had emphasized that their strikes were focused, calibrated, and deliberately non-escalatory. It was clearly stated that Pakistani military establishments were not targeted. However, India warned that any assault on its military assets would provoke an appropriate and proportional response.
The situation remains tense along the LoC and other sensitive areas as both countries continue to exchange fire amid rising international concern.
