IMPHAL, May 10: In a significant development, three individuals affiliated with underground insurgent groups—the United National Liberation Front (Pambei) and the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (PLA/RPF)—have been arrested in connection with extortion activities in Manipur, police reported on Friday.
The two UNLF (P) members, who are currently engaged in peace talks with the government, were apprehended during a coordinated operation involving both central and civil police forces. The arrests were made from various locations across Imphal.
The arrested UNLF (P) cadres have been identified as Kshetrimayum Blish @ Lamyanba (20), a resident of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai in Imphal West District, and Pebam Jet Singh (26), hailing from Napet Palli Maning Leikai in Imphal East District. They were captured at Uripok Khoisnam Leikai, near the Central Dental Clinic, in Imphal West District.
From their possession, authorities recovered five mobile phones, a wallet containing Rs 250, an Aadhaar Card, and a four-wheeler vehicle.
In a separate raid, an RPF/PLA activist, Moirangthem Suraj Meetei @ Amujao (31), was arrested from a rented house at Sekmai Awang Leikai under Sekmai Police Station, also in Imphal West District. The police seized a mobile phone, a wallet with Rs 300, and an Aadhaar Card from him.
All three individuals are reportedly involved in extortion activities targeting schools, government officials, and the public in the Imphal area.
