NEW DELHI, May 10: The Airports Authority of India (AAI), in coordination with relevant aviation authorities, has announced the temporary suspension of civil flight operations at 32 airports across northern and western India. The suspension is effective from 9 May to 14 May 2025, lasting until 0529 IST on 15 May 2025, and is being implemented due to operational reasons.
During this period, all civil flight activities at the affected airports will remain suspended. The airports impacted include Adhampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, Jaisalmer, Jammu, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra (Gaggal), Keshod, Kishangarh, Kullu Manali (Bhuntar), Leh, Ludhiana, Mundra, Naliya, Pathankot, Patiala, Porbandar, Rajkot (Hirasar), Sarsawa, Shimla, Srinagar, Thoise, and Uttarlai.
In addition to the airport closures, AAI has also announced the temporary shutdown of 25 segments of Air Traffic Service (ATS) routes within the Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Regions (FIRs). These route segments will be unavailable from ground level to unlimited altitude until 2359 UTC on 14 May 2025, which corresponds to 0529 IST on 15 May 2025.
Airlines and flight operators have been advised to plan alternative routings in line with the latest air traffic advisories. The route and airport closures are being managed in close coordination with Air Traffic Control (ATC) units to ensure the safety of airspace users and to minimise disruption.
The authorities have stressed that the suspension is strictly for operational reasons and that all possible efforts will be made to mitigate its impact on air traffic operations. Airlines are urged to review updated advisories and adjust flight schedules accordingly to avoid inconvenience to passengers and ensure smooth operations.
