KOHIMA, May 22: The Nagaland government has suspended Reny Wilfred, a 2015-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, after multiple women employees accused him of sexual and mental harassment, triggering a criminal investigation, a senior official confirmed on Thursday.
The suspension order was issued on Wednesday by Chief Secretary Dr J. Alam under the provisions of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969. Wilfred, who has denied all allegations, was serving as Joint Secretary in the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) and the Finance Department at the time of the suspension.
“The suspension follows a formal complaint filed by the Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) on March 17, 2025, after receiving accounts from several women employees who accused Wilfred of demanding sexual favours in exchange for salary hikes and employment opportunities,” the official said.
As per the suspension order, Wilfred’s headquarters during the suspension will be the Personnel and Administrative Reforms (P&AR) Department at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat in Kohima. He has also been barred from leaving headquarters without prior approval from the competent authority.
In response to the suspension, Wilfred has categorically denied all the allegations.
The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) also weighed in on the matter, demanding his suspension and stressing that allowing him to remain in office “undermines public trust and sends a dangerous message that institutional protection takes precedence over accountability.”
Earlier, on April 12, Nagaland Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the officer, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the allegations.
In addition to the current case, Wilfred is reportedly facing trial in another matter related to the alleged molestation of two domestic workers at his official residence. He was booked in connection with the 2021 case while serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Noklak district, the official added.
