Nagalnd: Zeliangrong Organizations Declare Indefinite Shutdown in Peren from June 10 Over Pimla Murder Case

DIMAPUR, June 7: The Zeliangrong Youth Organisation Nagaland (ZYON) and Zeliang Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) have announced an indefinite shutter-down in Peren district beginning June 10, as part of the second phase of their protest demanding justice in the unresolved Pimla murder case. The decision was revealed during a press conference on June 6 in Dimapur by ZYON president R John Zeliang, following an emergency meeting held on June 4.

The Pimla murder, which occurred on April 7, sparked widespread outrage. Despite earlier promises from the state government, the organizations claim that no substantial progress has been made in the investigation. The first phase of their protest, which lasted four days, was paused after a meeting with the state Home Commissioner on April 29, during which officials were given a month to act — a deadline that has now passed without any updates.

Citing government inaction and lack of communication, ZYON and ZSUN criticized delays in forensic and DNA testing and the failure to equip investigating agencies properly. They expressed frustration over the absence of any follow-up from key state leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang, under whose constituency the incident occurred.

Although five people, including the victim’s husband, have been arrested, the protestors maintain that justice is far from delivered. They warned that they would not be held responsible for any incidents arising during the agitation.

The groups also appealed to the wider Naga community for solidarity, framing their protest as part of a larger demand for justice, accountability, and better governance across Nagaland.
