IMPHAL, June 9: Amid escalating unrest and widespread protests in Manipur, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh departed for New Delhi on Monday afternoon. The visit comes in the wake of growing tensions across the state, particularly after the arrest of several members of the Meitei group Arambai Tenggol, which has triggered significant public outrage and demonstrations.
Speaking to reporters at Imphal International Airport, Singh made a heartfelt appeal to the people of Manipur to refrain from violence and act with restraint. “Manipur is passing through a critical phase. Every citizen must reflect deeply before taking any step. Violence will only worsen the situation. We must stand united and work collectively for the welfare of our indigenous communities,” he stated.
Singh emphasized that the present situation demands maturity, peace, and solidarity among the people. He assured the public that he would strongly represent their concerns and push for an urgent resolution during his meeting with central leaders.
The former Chief Minister, along with Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, were called to the national capital for an emergency consultation chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah. The meeting is expected to focus on restoring law and order in Manipur, addressing public grievances, and exploring a long-term political roadmap to bring stability and reconciliation to the region.
