AHMEDABAD, June 16: In the wake of the devastating Air India AI171 crash in Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad, authorities have confirmed that DNA matches have been established for 99 of the deceased. As of Monday morning, 64 bodies have been handed over to families, with identification efforts continuing at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.

Dr. Rajneesh Patel, Professor of Surgery at the hospital, provided updates on the meticulous identification process, which involved DNA testing due to the severely charred condition of many victims. Out of 87 finalized DNA profiles (after eliminating duplicates), 47 mortal remains have been returned to families across 12 districts, including Ahmedabad, Kheda, Mehsana, and Bhavnagar.
