IMPHAL, June 16: In response to a recent uptick in COVID-19 cases, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla chaired a high-level review meeting on Monday at the Conference Hall of Raj Bhavan, Imphal. The meeting was convened to assess the state’s preparedness in line with recent advisories issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India.
The session was attended by the Chief Secretary, senior medical officials from the State Health Department, and other key stakeholders. The Governor was informed that 13 out of 66 samples tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, marking a concerning positivity rate of 33.3%. All identified cases have been placed under home isolation, and contact tracing is actively underway.
Officials briefed the Governor on various aspects of the state’s readiness, including diagnostic and testing capabilities, the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE), oxygen supply, ICU and isolation ward capacity, and the stock of essential medicines. Monitoring is being coordinated through the IDSP–IHIP portal to ensure timely updates and responses.
However, the review also highlighted key challenges, such as limited testing infrastructure, supply chain gaps for critical medical resources, and the need to bolster hospital readiness. In response, the Governor stressed the importance of a proactive approach, robust healthcare infrastructure, and comprehensive public awareness initiatives to mitigate any potential resurgence of COVID-19.
