IMPHAL, June 16: The Government of Manipur has expressed profound grief over the tragic loss of two young daughters of the state—Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma (22) and Lamnunthem Singson (28)—who were crew members aboard the Air India flight that crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025.
In an official press note issued today by the Office of the Chief Secretary, the government described the two women as symbols of aspiration, courage, and grace, noting that their sudden passing has deeply affected not only their families but the entire state.
“It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that the Government and people of Manipur mourn the untimely and tragic demise of two of our daughters… Their sudden passing has not only plunged their families and loved ones into grief but has also sent a wave of mourning across the entire state,” the statement read.

The Government of Manipur has communicated with both Tata Group and Air India, expressing its full preparedness to receive the mortal remains of the two crew members in Imphal. Necessary arrangements are already in place to ensure that the remains are treated with the utmost dignity and respect, and to facilitate their safe transportation to their respective homes.
However, the government emphasized that the final decisions regarding the mode of reception, ceremonies, and other arrangements will rest with the bereaved families. The state has assured that it will extend all necessary support in accordance with the families’ wishes.
“This is not just the loss of two lives — it is the silencing of dreams, the departure of daughters who brought pride to Manipur, and the extinguishing of two bright lights that once soared amongst the clouds. Their service and spirit will be remembered with honour and reverence,” the release concluded.
