GUWAHATI, June 17: In a landmark move toward enhancing digital security, Bharti Airtel has announced that its newly launched AI-powered fraud detection system has successfully blocked over 1.86 lakh scam links and protected more than 1.35 million users across Northeast India within just 33 days of operation.
Part of a nationwide initiative, the AI system functions silently in the background for all Airtel mobile and broadband users. It scans over 1 billion URLs daily across platforms such as SMS, WhatsApp, email, and social media, blocking malicious links in under 100 milliseconds and redirecting users to a warning page to prevent real-time fraud.
Demonstrating how the technology works, the system can instantly detect fake delivery alerts — such as messages containing fraudulent URLs like “http://www.tracky0urparcell.com” — and prevent users from opening them, thus thwarting phishing and other cyberattacks.
Rabi Shankar Mishra, CEO – Assam and Northeast, Bharti Airtel, stated, “We are pleased to introduce the world’s first AI-driven fraud detection solution integrated into a telecom network. This will be a game-changer in ensuring digital safety for customers across the Northeast.”
With internet usage rapidly increasing across urban and rural parts of the region, Airtel’s solution offers much-needed protection for vulnerable user groups, including senior citizens, students, homemakers, and new smartphone users. The system is automatic, requires no installation, and is completely free for Airtel users.
Nationally, Airtel’s AI system has safeguarded 82.5 million users from digital frauds, setting a new benchmark for proactive cybersecurity in the telecom industry.
