NEW DELHI, June 17: Amid intensifying hostilities between Israel and Iran, the Government of India has issued an urgent advisory, asking all Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) currently in Tehran to evacuate the city and relocate to safer areas. The advisory comes as the conflict enters its fifth day, marked by ongoing missile exchanges and rising civilian casualties.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran, through a post on social media platform X, appealed to citizens to stay in contact with embassy officials and share their current locations and contact details. Emergency helpline numbers — +989010144557, +989128109115, and +989128109109 — have been activated to assist those still in the Iranian capital.
“All Indian Nationals and PIOs who can move out of Tehran using their own resources, are advised to move to a safe location outside the city,” the embassy stated.
The call for evacuation follows a series of missile attacks between the two nations. The Israeli military confirmed that several missiles fired from Iran had triggered air raid sirens across northern Israel, including Haifa and the occupied Golan Heights. In retaliation, Israeli drone strikes targeted infrastructure in Tehran, including an Iranian state television network building, which was seen ablaze in videos broadcast by Iranian state TV.
U.S. President Donald Trump also called for an immediate evacuation of Tehran, criticizing Iran for failing to agree to a nuclear deal. “Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” Trump declared in a post on Truth Social, as he cut short his visit to the G7 Summit in Canada to return to Washington and monitor the unfolding crisis.
Meanwhile, in a significant blow to Israeli infrastructure, Bazan, Israel’s largest oil refinery group, confirmed a complete shutdown of its operations at Haifa Port due to damage from Iranian missile strikes.
