IMPHAL, June 17: A delegation from the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Tuesday at Raj Bhawan, pressing for swift action on child welfare concerns and enhanced COVID-19 care in the state.

Led by MCPCR Chairperson Keisam Pradipkumar, the team called for immediate enactment of the Manipur State Policy for Children, 2025, emphasizing its role in addressing challenges faced by children, particularly those from conflict-hit and marginalized communities. They requested that the policy be passed through the Governor in Council, aiming to make Manipur the first northeastern state with a dedicated children’s policy.

The delegation also raised alarm over the resurgence of COVID-19 cases, demanding the creation of dedicated Pediatric COVID Care Centres. They expressed concern over the conditions in overcrowded relief camps, where children remain vulnerable due to poor infrastructure and limited space for social distancing.
