AIZAWL, June 27: In a decisive move against drug trafficking and abuse, Mizoram authorities destroyed narcotics worth over ₹34 crore on Thursday as part of a state-wide campaign coinciding with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The drugs were destroyed by the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department in collaboration with the state police, following court orders.
At a public destruction event held at Muallungthu near Aizawl, the Excise and Narcotics Department incinerated drugs valued at ₹20.24 crore. The seized contraband included 25.2 kg of heroin, 32.7 kg of methamphetamine tablets, 49 kg of crystal meth, 202.3 kg of ganja (cannabis), and 5,308.9 grams of nitrazepam. The event was attended by T. Lalhlimpuia, a legislator from the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) representing Lunglei West constituency.
Simultaneously, the CID (Crime) and Aizawl District Executive Force (DEF) of the Mizoram Police conducted a separate disposal operation at Zoram Medical College and Hospital (ZMCH), where they incinerated drugs valued at ₹13.79 crore. The narcotics included 8.2 kg of heroin, 87 kg of methamphetamine, and 23.2 kg of ganja.
State Deputy Inspector General of Police (Northern Range), Dingluaia, who was present at the ZMCH incineration, lauded the ongoing anti-drug efforts and called on law enforcement to intensify their actions against drug trafficking networks in the state.
