IMPHAL, June 27: A delegation of former members of the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in Manipur met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan on Friday, urging him to expedite the long-pending ADC elections in the state.
During the meeting, the delegation submitted a memorandum outlining the adverse impacts of the delay, stating that the absence of elected local bodies in the hill areas has significantly hindered development and weakened local governance. They expressed that the lack of representation has left crucial issues unresolved and called on the Governor to take immediate action for the restoration of democratic processes in these regions.
“The delay has caused hardship for the people in the hill districts, where local issues remain unaddressed due to the administrative vacuum,” the memorandum stated.
In a separate engagement at Raj Bhavan, Brigadier N. Romeo Singh (Retd.), who recently took charge as a Member of the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC), also met with Governor Bhalla to discuss matters pertaining to his new responsibilities.
