Three Militants Arrested in Manipur for Involvement in Extortion and Insurgent Activities

IMPHAL, July 3: In a series of coordinated operations, Manipur Police and security forces apprehended three active members of banned valley-based insurgent outfits for their alleged involvement in extortion and insurgent activities across the state. The arrests were made from different locations between July 1 and July 2, officials confirmed.

On July 2, personnel from Nambol Police Station arrested a member of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro), identified as Oinam Hemanjit Singh alias Taibangsemba (50), from the Meitram area in Bishnupur district. Singh, a resident of Thangalawai Sabal Leikai, was found in possession of a diesel auto-rickshaw and two mobile phones at the time of his arrest.

Earlier, on July 1, Waikhong Police Station personnel arrested Lourembam Suresh alias Mairongba alias Toto (47), an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), from Elang Khangpokpi Awang Leikai, Maning Pat under Kakching district. The suspect, a native of Heirangoithong Oinam Leikai in Imphal West, was also found in possession of a mobile phone.

In a separate operation the same day, Oinam Tomba Singh alias Herojit (57), another operative of KCP (PWG), was apprehended by security forces from Sekmaijin Maning Leikai under Hiyanglam Police Station in Kakching district. A resident of Tumukhong Awang Leikai in Imphal East, Singh was reportedly involved in a series of extortion cases, particularly targeting oil pump owners in Kakching and Thoubal districts. Authorities recovered a keypad mobile phone from his possession.

The police stated that all three individuals were actively engaged in insurgent operations and extortion-related activities, and further investigations are underway to trace their network and past criminal records.
