IMPHAL, July 5: In a coordinated series of operations across Manipur, security forces arrested an active militant of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF-Pambei) and recovered significant caches of arms and ammunition from different districts, officials said on Saturday.

The arrest was made in the Moirangkhom area of Imphal West district on Friday. The accused, identified as 38-year-old Heisnam Romeo Singh, was reportedly engaged in extortion activities targeting government offices and private businesses in and around the greater Imphal area.
In a separate operation in Churachandpur district, security forces recovered a cache of arms from Chakmual village and nearby areas. The seized items included a single-barrel local-made rifle with a magazine, five live bolt cartridges, two 7.62mm live rounds, and eight tear smoke munitions.

Simultaneously, another major recovery was made from the foothills of Chingkhei Ching in Imphal East district. Troops recovered two .303 rifles, a magazine, a 9mm pistol, a No. 36 hand grenade, three MK-1 explosives, live ammunition, two detonators, an AK-47 bayonet, a 9mm SMG carbine magazine, and a radio wireless set charger.
These developments come amid heightened security operations across the state as authorities intensify efforts to curb insurgent activity and the illegal flow of arms. Investigations into the arrested militant’s network and affiliations are currently underway.
