IMPHAL, July 9: Manipur Police have arrested six members of the Arambai Tengol group for their alleged involvement in the assault of police personnel during a bandh in Bishnupur district on June 9.
The arrests were made on June 8 following an intensive investigation into the incident that disrupted law and order in the area. According to police sources, the individuals were part of a group that physically attacked police officers deployed to maintain peace during the bandh.
The arrested have been identified as Laishram Sanahal Singh alias Sana (26), Laishram Rishikanta Singh (20), and Laishram Premchand alias Kandrang (18), all residents of Govindagram Awang Leikai in Imphal West district. The other three arrested are Kangabam Nongdamba Singh (23) from Terakhongsangbi Ward No. 2 in Bishnupur district, Sarangthem Rabichandra alias Rabi (28) from Kangmong Maisnam Leikai in Imphal West, and Yumnam Jaswant Singh (22) from Lourembam Maning Leikai in Bishnupur.
Police stated that the group had played an active role in inciting violence and obstructing government functionaries during the bandh, which had seen widespread disruption and tension across parts of the district.
