IMPHAL, July 12: The Manipur Government has appointed Chingakham Naoba Singh, younger brother of martyr Deepak Chingakham, as Assistant Sub-Inspector (Civil Police) under the Home Department. The decision, approved by the Governor-in-Council during its recent sitting, was made on humanitarian and exceptional grounds in recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by his elder brother.

Late Constable (CT) Deepak Chingakham, 25, of the 7th Battalion Border Security Force (BSF), lost his life during Operation Sindoor following unprovoked cross-border firing by Pakistani forces in the RS Pura Sector of Jammu and Kashmir on May 10. Hailing from Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai in Imphal East, Deepak succumbed to his injuries a day later, leaving behind a grieving family and a legacy of courage.

Following the tragedy, the martyr’s father, Chingakham Bonbihari, submitted a representation to the Governor requesting government employment for his younger son. Despite the BSF offering a central posting, the family opted for state employment so Naoba Singh could remain close during their time of mourning and transition.

Recognizing the exceptional nature of the case and the family’s preference, the Governor-in-Council approved the appointment, stating, “The Government of Manipur reaffirms its unwavering commitment to honouring the sacrifices made by brave personnel and supporting their family in times of need.”
