Senapati, July 16: In a major drug bust, a joint team of the Special Operation Team (SOT) of Senapati Police and D-78 CRPF seized nearly 30,000 WY tablets during a routine frisking operation at T. Khullen Naka checkpoint on Monday afternoon. The operation was conducted under the supervision of OC Senapati PS, Inspector Nehgoulien Kipgen, and overall supervision of SP Senapati District, SM Zaib Zakir, IPS.
At around 1:00 PM, an i20 car bearing registration number MN-03-P-8268, coming from Imphal and headed towards Senapati, was intercepted at the checkpoint. Upon questioning, the driver was identified as Makakmayum Firdosh Sharif (26), son of MK Abdul Helim from Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai, Imphal East.

During the inspection of the vehicle, black polythene bags suspected to contain drugs were found concealed under the bonnet of the vehicle. As such DC Kangpokpi was intimated and a request was made to depute one Magistrate. Accordingly, SDC/HQ Kangpokpi Shri Lhunkhopao Touthang was deputed for doing the necessary procedures.
In the presence of the Magistrate and the accused, three black polythene bags were retrieved and opened, each containing 50 small packets. On further examination, a total of 29,974 WY tablets (amphetamine) were recovered. The total weight of the seized tablets, including plastic packaging, was found to be 3.172 kilograms.
The drugs and the vehicle used for transportation were seized in the presence of the Magistrate and other witnesses. The accused has been arrested and a case has been registered at Senapati Police Station under relevant sections of the law for further investigation.
