Imphal, July 16: Member of Parliament Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has pledged to bring critical issues affecting Manipur to the national stage during the upcoming session of Parliament. Speaking to the media at his residence in Keishamthong on Wednesday, Dr. Bimol emphasized his commitment to raising the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), the ambiguities surrounding buffer zones, and governance failures in the conflict-ridden state.

Dr. Bimol outlined four major concerns he intends to address: the resettlement and dignity of IDPs, the unclear buffer zone policies, administrative shortcomings, and the overall failure of governance in ensuring justice and rehabilitation. He expressed serious apprehension over the Manipur government’s plan to shut down relief camps by December 2025, questioning the transparency and adequacy of the resettlement process.

“Many displaced people from Moreh and Churachandpur are being moved to temporary structures without clarity on how many will be constructed or whether they will meet the needs of those affected,” he said. After visiting several camps, the MP described the harsh realities IDPs continue to face—including inadequate access to healthcare, education, and a lack of permanent housing—two years after the outbreak of ethnic violence in 2023.

On the controversial issue of buffer zones, Dr. Bimol stated that despite official claims of removal, de facto restrictions remain. “I was recently denied entry into an area within my own constituency. This is a violation of Article 15 of the Constitution and reflects a disturbing communal divide under the pretense of peacekeeping,” he asserted.

The MP also criticized recurring governance failures, particularly those witnessed during DISHA meetings—forums intended to monitor development programs. He assured the public that he will raise these concerns “through every possible forum—debates, speeches, and interventions” in Parliament.

Calling for greater public participation, Dr. Bimol invited citizens to share their concerns so he can represent them more effectively. “This is not just about policy—it’s about dignity, justice, and the right to live without fear or discrimination,” he concluded.
