Imphal, July 18: In a significant step toward digital transformation and citizen-centric governance, Manipur Governor Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Thursday launched the Cashless Payment System for Transport Services along with the implementation of electronic Driving Licences (eDL) and electronic Registration Certificates (eRC). The launch event was held at Raj Bhavan, Imphal.
Describing the initiative as transformative, the Governor praised the efforts of the Transport Department and emphasized the need to harness technology for good governance, transparency, and empowerment of citizens. The new services aim to make transport-related processes more efficient, secure, and accessible to the public.
According to the Transport Secretary, Manipur has already integrated 32 services from the national Parivahan Sewa portal, with more services set to go live in the near future. The launch event was attended by key stakeholders, including the Director of Transport, members of the NIC (National Informatics Centre), the Regional Office of SBI, and others involved in the project.
Starting July 18, 2025, citizens across Manipur will be able to make all transport-related payments through Point of Sale (POS) terminals and various online payment systems, including debit/credit cards and UPI, ensuring a seamless and contactless transaction experience.
Furthermore, from August 1, 2025, the state will officially implement eDL and eRC services, allowing citizens to carry digital versions of their driver’s licences and vehicle registration certificates via DigiLocker and mParivahan mobile apps. This will eliminate the need to carry physical documents, streamlining verification processes and improving ease of travel.
