Aizawl, July 19: Officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Assam Rifles seized heroin and methamphetamine tablets worth ₹36.79 crore in Champhai district of Mizoram. The operation was carried out on July 17 at Zokhawthar, a key town along the India-Myanmar border, based on specific intelligence inputs.
According to a statement released by the Assam Rifles, the joint team recovered 642 grams of heroin and 10.44 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets during a search operation near a border crossing point. The drugs, smuggled in from across the Myanmar border, were believed to be en route to the domestic market or possibly further westward transit.
Methamphetamine, also known as “ice” or “crystal meth,” is a potent stimulant with severe addictive properties. The seized contraband has been handed over to the NCB for further investigation, which is currently underway to trace the network and individuals involved in the smuggling racket.
