Nagaland’s RPP Slams Centre’s Interlocutor AK Mishra for Offering “False Hopes” on Naga Issue

Kohima, July 19: The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has launched a scathing attack on A.K. Mishra, the Centre’s interlocutor for the ongoing Naga peace talks, accusing him of misleading the public and failing to make any meaningful progress in resolving the long-standing political issue.

In a strongly worded statement released on Friday, the RPP described Mishra’s repeated visits to Nagaland as “entirely fruitless” and “a waste of taxpayers’ money.” The party alleged that Mishra’s engagements have done little beyond offering “false hope” to the people, and urged him to refrain from making what it termed “monthly trips to excite gullible minds.”

The criticism comes a day after Mishra chaired a joint meeting in Chümoukedima with representatives of the Naga political groups, including two factions of the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs)—one led by N. Kitovi Zhimomi and the other by Neokpao Konyak and Alezo Venuh. Mishra is also expected to hold talks with the NSCN (K) Niki group during his current visit.

The RPP’s statement dismissed the excitement surrounding the meeting, saying, “Once again, the factions may be excited, but the general public is merely amused.” It added that neither Mishra nor the Government of India appears serious about delivering a lasting solution to the decades-old Naga issue.

The party also revisited its criticism of former interlocutor and ex-Nagaland Governor R.N. Ravi, accusing him of derailing the peace process by “throwing the Framework Agreement into the dustbin” and pushing for the Agreed Position pact, thereby deepening divisions among Naga groups.

With the peace process once again in the spotlight, the RPP’s remarks underscore growing public frustration over delays and perceived insincerity in the ongoing dialogue between Naga political groups and the Centre.
