Imphal, July 25: In a landmark initiative aimed at empowering young women from marginalized communities, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Marriott Group have jointly launched Project Pranita in Manipur. The programme, flagged off on Wednesday at the BSF Sector Headquarters in Koirengei, Imphal, and on Thursday at the Gospel Centenary Hall in Churachandpur, seeks to provide comprehensive education and career opportunities in the hospitality sector to underprivileged girls.

The inauguration was attended by BSF Inspector General Ravi Kant and Sanjay Gupta, head of the Marriott Worldwide Business Council, alongside dignitaries from the Indian Army, civil administration, and Central Armed Police Forces.

As part of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign, the project will support 45 selected girls from Meitei, Naga, and Kuki communities. These girls, chosen from among 70 applicants through a transparent selection process facilitated by BSF units in Imphal and Churachandpur, will pursue a fully sponsored three-year BA in Tourism Studies from IGNOU. In parallel, they will receive on-the-job training at Marriott’s 5-star hotels across India.

The programme ensures a holistic support system, including monthly stipends (₹10,000–₹15,000), free uniforms, meals, accommodation, paid leave, health insurance, and guaranteed job placement upon successful completion. Specialized training, professional mentorship, and personal development modules are also part of the curriculum.

BSF played a pivotal role in outreach, mobilization, pre-training arrangements, and logistical support, ensuring a seamless onboarding process for the participants. Speaking at the event, BSF officials highlighted that Project Pranita reflects the Force’s commitment to inclusive development and fostering peace through economic empowerment.

The Marriott Group, responsible for training and employing the selected candidates, emphasized its long-term dedication to social responsibility and inclusive growth, describing the initiative as a model for public-private partnership in nation-building.

By creating livelihood opportunities and encouraging inter-community engagement, Project Pranita is expected to serve as a powerful catalyst for social transformation in Manipur.
