Churachandpur, July 28: The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Delhi & NCR, has strongly condemned the Manipur Public Service Commission’s (MPSC) decision to relocate its upcoming main examination centre to Guwahati, Assam, effectively excluding Churachandpur district from the list of venues.
In a memorandum submitted to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the student body labelled the decision as “unjust and burdensome,” particularly for aspirants from the conflict-affected Kuki community. Many of these students, they said, are already grappling with displacement and emotional trauma caused by prolonged ethnic violence in the state.
“This decision appears both unjust and burdensome for the affected students. Many are already enduring unimaginable challenges,” the KSO stated in the letter signed by its President Paojakhup Guite and Education Secretary Kerry Janggoulen Khongsai. “Travelling outside the state, far from their homes, adds a layer of hardship that could have been avoided if Churachandpur had been considered a viable centre.”
The student body warned that such administrative decisions could be perceived as a form of exclusion, depriving a marginalized community of equal access to public services and competitive opportunities. Stressing the constitutional right to equal opportunity in education and employment, the KSO urged the Governor to take immediate action to reinstate Churachandpur as an exam centre.
The letter further emphasized that competitive exams should remain neutral avenues of merit and opportunity, free from the repercussions of ongoing ethnic tensions. The KSO warned that failure to address the issue may trigger a sense of systemic suppression among displaced Kuki students in Manipur and across the country.
Calling for justice and inclusivity, the student body has appealed for the relocation of the MPSC examination centre back to Churachandpur within the current month, citing both humanitarian and logistical grounds.
