CHURACHANDPUR, Aug 2: In a historic emergency relief operation, the District Administration of Churachandpur, in close coordination with the State Government and the Indian Air Force, successfully air-dropped essential supplies today to the isolated villages of Santing, Saichang, and surrounding areas in the Henglep sub-division, following massive landslides that crippled road connectivity.
Triggered by relentless rainfall over the past week, more than 90 landslide points were reported along the Churachandpur–Tipaimukh Road (NH-02), particularly between Chiangpi and Tuilaphai. The disruption left multiple remote villages completely cut off and struggling with acute shortages of food, medicines, and other essentials.
Responding swiftly to the growing crisis, the District Administration, with support from Shri Letzamang Haokip, MLA of 57-Henglep Assembly Constituency, launched the airdrop operation using an Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopter. Relief materials—including rice, pulses, and medical supplies—were dropped at Muolhoiching helipad, with the chopper taking off from the 36 Assam Rifles helipad at Headquarters Veng, Churachandpur.
This marks the first-ever aerial relief operation of its kind in the region, underscoring the government’s unwavering commitment to reaching every citizen, even in the most inaccessible terrains, during times of crisis.
The operation was closely supervised by MLA Letzamang Haokip, Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S, and SDO Henglep Th. Mangminthang Gangte. DC Dharun Kumar S praised the swift and coordinated effort by all agencies and assured continued support until normalcy is fully restored.
Simultaneously, ground-level restoration is progressing rapidly. Agencies including the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), BIPL, and other stakeholders are working round-the-clock to clear debris and restore vital road connectivity.
The District Administration expressed deep gratitude to the Indian Air Force, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Assam Rifles, and all departments involved in making the life-saving operation a success.
