Kohima, August 5: The Nagaland Government is poised to make a crucial decision regarding the state’s reservation policy, as the Cabinet is scheduled to meet on August 6 to take a final call on the demands raised by the Core Committee on Reservation Policy Review (CoRRP), representing five major Naga tribes.
The newly appointed Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Sentiyanger Imchen, met with representatives of CoRRP at the Civil Secretariat in Kohima on Monday. The meeting was held following an official invitation extended on August 2 to address the group’s long-standing demands concerning the outdated reservation framework, which has remained unchanged for nearly five decades.
Committee Convenor Tesinlo Semy, speaking to the media after the meeting, confirmed that the the discussion focused on critical issues including the framing of the Terms of Reference and the composition of the proposed Commission to review the policy.
The Five Tribes Committee had earlier announced plans to initiate the third phase of its agitation starting Tuesday. However, in light of the government’s outreach and the scheduled Cabinet discussion, the committee has agreed to defer the planned protest.
