Imphal, August 18: Following the demise of Nagaland Governor La Ganesan, the President of India has assigned Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla the additional responsibility of serving as Governor of Nagaland.
A communique from the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday stated: “Consequent upon the demise of Shri La Ganesan, Governor of Nagaland, the President of India has appointed Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Manipur, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Nagaland, in addition to his own duties.”
La Ganesan, 80, passed away on Friday at a private hospital in Chennai, where he was undergoing treatment following a head injury sustained earlier this month. His death has left a void in Nagaland’s Raj Bhavan.
Bhalla, a former Union Home Secretary, has been serving as the Governor of Manipur since December 2024. He assumed charge at a turbulent time when the state was under crisis and later placed under President’s Rule, which has since been extended for another six months.
