Stranded Drivers & Travellers Caught Between Bandh and Landslide in Peren

Senapati, August 19: The Zeliangrong Youth Organization Nagaland (ZYON) and Zeliangrong Students’ Union (ZSUN) have jointly imposed an indefinite bandh across Peren district, demanding justice in the Pimla rape and murder case.

The bandh, effective from August 18, has brought government offices and transport services to a halt, with exemptions only for essential services like medical aid, paramilitary, fire and emergency, education, and urgent district administration duties.

However, a growing humanitarian concern has emerged as drivers and travelers remain stranded below Peren headquarters due to a landslide, compounded by the bandh restrictions. Many truckers and travelers, caught unaware, now face shortages of essentials, heightening worries over safety and well-being.

The massive mudslide has brought traffic to a halt. Local sources said clearance work has begun but it may take a few days before the road is fully reopened.

As part of the bandh, movement on National Highway 129A and interstate commercial vehicles, including Manipur-bound trucks and night buses, has been strictly prohibited. The organizations said the drastic step comes after “long-delayed justice and deep frustration” within the community.

ZYON has urged all citizens to maintain peace and discipline while observing the bandh, stressing that violence or vandalism would undermine the cause. The groups have vowed to continue their protest until justice is delivered in the Pimla case.
