Manipur: Security Forces Nab Drug Peddlers and Insurgents in Statewide Crackdown

Imphal, August 23: In a series of operations carried out across Manipur on August 22, state police and security forces arrested four individuals involved in drug trafficking and insurgent activities, as part of their ongoing efforts to curb crime and militancy in the region.

In the first incident, two suspected drug peddlers were apprehended by Kakching Police from Pallel Thongwangma along NH-102 under Kakching Police Station in Kakching district. The arrested individuals have been identified as Hidayatullah (27) of Phaicham Veng Bidna Part-1, Moreh Ward No. 3, and Muhammad Islamuddin Khan (45) of Moreh Ward No. 5, both residents of Tengnoupal district.

During the operation, the police recovered three soap cases containing approximately 47 grams of heroin powder and one auto-rickshaw, allegedly used in the transportation of the contraband.

In a separate development, security forces arrested an active cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Taibanganba) from his residence in Imphal East. The insurgent, identified as Kshetrimayum Bhogendro Singh alias Yaiphaba alias Prem (44), was arrested from Khongman Zone-III under Irilbung Police Station. According to officials, Singh was actively extorting money from shopkeepers and residents in Imphal East and West districts to fund the banned outfit’s operations. A mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were recovered from him.

Later the same day, security forces apprehended another suspect, Pukhrambam Mani Singh (25) of Sagolmang Mamang Leikai, from New Keithelmanbi Bazar in Imphal West. He was found in possession of a country-made pistol, a magazine, and a 9mm live round.
