Chandel, August 27: Following a coordinated effort by Chandel Police, Assam Rifles, BSF, and local youths, three children who went missing from Oriental Hostel, Hringphe under Chakpikarong Police Station have been safely recovered after about 48 hours.
According to Chandel police, the children were first reported missing around 5:00 pm on Monday, August 25. Immediately after receiving the information, OC Chakpikarong Joy Martin and his team launched a search operation. The next day, August 26, search teams began early morning combing bus and auto stands, nearby villages, and routes, but initially found no trace of the children.
By the evening, under the supervision of SP Chandel Dharmendra Tyagi, MPS, and with the support of local youths, village authorities, BSF (C-Coy 200), and Assam Rifles (Shaluk Post), a large joint combing operation was launched. Around 9:20 PM, two of the boys were found in the jungle near Hringphe village, while the third boy had fled further inside and could not be located that night.
The search resumed early the next morning around 5:00 am, when the last boy was safely recovered near the Chakpi riverbank, police said.
All three children are now in the custody of Chakpikarong Police and have received medical check-ups at PHC Chakpikarong. The boys will be handed over to the concerned authorities after completing the necessary formalities.
Chandel police expressed their gratitude, stating: “We remain deeply grateful to the local youths, women volunteers, village authorities, BSF, Assam Rifles, and all who stood by and extended their support throughout the search.”
