Kohima, Sept 3: The Kohima district administration has announced a fresh traffic advisory following the partial restoration of National Highway-2 between Kohima and Mao, near Phesama, where restoration work was underway following sinking and damages between Km 192.050 and Km 192.150. The route, which had been disrupted, is now open with strict regulations to ensure safe movement amid ongoing restoration work.
Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem stated that light motor vehicles will be allowed, while heavy vehicles up to six wheelers with a maximum load of 20 tonnes may ply under restrictions. South-bound trucks heading towards Manipur will be permitted only between 8 pm and 12 midnight, whereas Dimapur-bound trucks will be allowed from 12 midnight to 4 am.
Convoys of security forces, ambulances, LPG carriers, fire tenders, and essential service vehicles will be given priority and permitted to move during the day.
To facilitate continued restoration, traffic on the affected stretch of NH-2 will remain suspended daily from 10 am to 2 pm. During this period, an alternative route via Phesama–Kisama/Kigwema through the Rhododendron Resort will be operational.
Authorities also cautioned that in case of heavy rainfall, vehicular movement may be suspended entirely due to the risk of landslides in the region.
