Imphal, September 12: In a major crackdown on insurgency, security forces arrested an active cadre of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) and seized a large cache of arms and ammunition in separate operations across Manipur on Thursday.
Acting on intelligence inputs, security personnel apprehended 43-year-old Moirangthem Ranjit Singh from his residence at Lamsang Makha Leikai under Lamsang Police Station, Imphal West. Singh, an active KYKL member, was reportedly engaged in extortion and intimidating the public in loan recovery cases.
During the raid, authorities recovered a 9mm pistol with magazine, a pump-action shotgun, 18 live cartridges, two empty magazines of INSAS LMG, two empty INSAS rifle magazines, a mobile handset, and an Aadhaar card.

In a simultaneous operation, security forces unearthed a stockpile of illegal weapons and explosives from the foothill areas of Sonapur and Jairolpokpi under Jiribam Police Station. The seized items included a modified SBBL gun, three country-made muzzle-loading SBBL guns, a .22 pistol, a country-made .22 DBBL shotgun, eight 12-bore cartridges, 56 vials and three bottles of gunpowder, 240 lead pieces, and an iron rod used for gunpowder filling.
