Guwahati, September 12: Congress leader and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, asserting that the people of Assam “deserve better” and will get it after the 2026 Assembly elections.
Taking to X, Gogoi criticised Sarma over what he called the CM’s “latest flop show” — the Assam Police investigation into alleged Pakistani links involving the Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha. Gogoi said the probe had turned into an embarrassment, as its findings were yet to be disclosed.
“I feel sorry for a chief minister whose words have lost all credibility and whose actions have made a mockery of the chair,” Gogoi said, adding that Sarma had been at the centre of “so many embarrassing instances.” He recalled an earlier remark where Sarma had claimed to have spotted Rahul Gandhi’s “body double” during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, describing the new allegations as “an even bigger flop show.”
Gogoi stressed, “People of Assam deserve better. People of Assam will receive better. In 2026.”
The war of words comes after Sarma stated on Thursday that the SIT report on Gogoi and his family contained “serious allegations” of alleged Pakistani links. Sarma said the matter would be placed before the state cabinet and that the report would be made public in due course, barring confidential details.
