Imphal, September 12: The Manipur government on Friday announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the state on Saturday, marking his first visit since the outbreak of ethnic violence in May 2023.
According to an official statement from the Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Modi will begin his programme in Churachandpur at 11:30 am, where he will interact with internally displaced persons (IDPs), lay foundation stones for major infrastructure projects, and address a public gathering at Peace Ground. Later in the day, he will proceed to Kangla in Imphal around 2:00 pm to inaugurate projects and meet IDPs before delivering another public address.
In Churachandpur, the Prime Minister will launch projects worth ₹7,344 crore, including the ₹3,647 crore Manipur Urban Roads, Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project, the ₹550 crore Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) Project, working women’s hostels at nine locations, upgradation of 120 high schools, and several highway projects under Bharatmala Pariyojana.
At Kangla, projects worth ₹1,203 crore will be inaugurated, such as the new Manipur Bhawans in Delhi and Kolkata, a new Police Headquarters, the Civil Secretariat, IT-SEZ Building-I, four new Ima Markets, and infrastructure upgrades across colleges, hospitals, and administrative centres.
The state government said the visit reflects Modi’s “continued commitment and dedication” to Manipur’s development and welfare. Citizens have been urged to extend a warm welcome and participate in the programmes, while authorities have issued strict security and safety advisories, including restrictions on children under 12, medically unfit persons, and carrying prohibited items.
