Dimapur, September 16: Dimapur Police have cracked down on a fake currency racket, arresting one person accused of duping victims with counterfeit notes disguised as genuine currency. The case has been registered at East Police Station.

Police said the seized notes were photocopied Rs 500 denominations used to lure unsuspecting victims. The accused’s method involved handing over a few genuine notes as samples before persuading victims to invest larger sums with the promise of receiving double the amount. Later, fake notes were packed in opaque plastic bags and delivered with instructions not to open them for several days under the pretext of a ‘chemical process.’ By the time victims discovered the fraud, the accused had fled.
