Congress Demands Action Against BJP Spokesperson for Death Threat to Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, September 29: The Congress party on Sunday urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take “immediate and exemplary” action against Kerala BJP spokesperson Pintu Mahadev after he allegedly issued a death threat to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during a televised debate.

In a letter addressed to Shah, senior Congress leader KC Venugopal cited a clip from a News18 Malayalam debate where Mahadev stated that “a bullet will fall on Rahul Gandhi’s chest” if he pursued certain political aspirations. Venugopal, who shared the letter on X, described the remarks as “cold, calculated and chilling,” adding that BJP leaders were normalising threats against political opponents.

The Congress accused the BJP of fostering a “toxic atmosphere of hate” and warned that inaction would be seen as “a de facto licence” for legitimising violence. The letter also referred to past threats targeting Rahul Gandhi on social media and invoked the assassinations of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi to highlight the gravity of the situation.

“Disagreements in politics must be addressed within the constitutional framework,” Venugopal wrote, stressing that failure to act swiftly would represent a “grave breach” of the Home Minister’s responsibility.
